religion has played an important role in tignish's history and culture. most residents are catholic, and the largest building in the area is the st. simon and st.jude church in the center of tignish.
in 2006, some people claimed to see the face of jesus in a tapestry at the church. the cloth is in the last picture here — i didn't see any faces in it.
the anti-abortion signs were startling because i don't see those around here, especially not from the knights of columbus. it's also interesting that the residents are apparently politically liberal in that area, despite their strong religious beliefs (and aside from the issue of abortion, i guess).
