pixies dvd

I just picked up a used Pixies DVD for $9. It features an awesome concert from 1988, some videos, and a documentary. I've seen the concert on TV before, but I haven't seen the other features. Now seems like a good time to watch it.

relevant?

I was dreaming of the past
And my heart was beating fast
I began to lose control
I began to lose control

I didn't mean to hurt you
I'm sorry that I made you cry
I didn't mean to hurt you
I'm just a jealous guy

I was feeling insecure
You might not love me any more
I was shivering inside
I was shivering inside

I didn't mean to hurt you
I'm sorry that I made you cry
I didn't want to hurt you
I'm just a jealous guy

I was trying to catch your eyes
Thought that you were trying to hide
I was swallowing my pain
I was swallowing my pain

I didn't mean to hurt you
I'm sorry that I made you cry
I didn't mean to hurt you
I'm just a jealous guy

fried server

After running 24/7 for 125 days, the fan on this server's power supply seized up and died. The strange noises (sometimes loud, sometimes silent) it had been making apparently were caused by the fan's intermittent locking. If I had known, I would've replaced the power supply earlier. The cheap-o power supply breathed its last breath early Saturday morning, and I didn't get around to replacing it until today after Nate got a "Mad Dog" brand power supply from CompUSA. Now the server is much healthier and quieter, and it sports a clear fan, gold-plated fan cage, and bright blue LED. woop-dee-doo.

Of course I was concerned about the server being down for an extended period because it serves my only email account (although I could use gmail if I had to). Thanks to SMTP's reliability, when the server came back up, I received a back log of spam that had been waiting for me across the internet.

Well, at least I know that someone cares about me -- if only as a potential "herbal enhancer" customer. Hmm, maybe I should look into it in appreciation for all the attention spammers give me.

faith in humanity restored... for now

My father and I went to Anna's Tacqueria for a burrito and to catch up on things. When I sat down to eat, my wallet fell out of my pocket because the ever-present Moleskine I've been carrying pushed the wallet right out. Usually, I'd notice such a drop in body mass from a missing wallet, but considering the state my mind is in lately, I didn't realize it was gone until we arrived at Dunkin' Donuts in Medford. After driving back to Anna's, I ran in to ask the cashier if anyone had found a wallet. She said, "you're lucky" as she handed me my precious tied in a plastic bag. "Thank you!" I chortled.

Times like this one make me think that maybe people care about each other more than they get credit for.

That reminds me of another freak occurrence -- also in Somerville. A couple weeks ago lee lee and I stepped out of her apartment in the morning to find the driver's side door on my car wide open. I had visions of the worst as we approached the car, but it turns out that nothing was missing. The door might've been open all night (somehow it was locked, but I must not have closed it), yet no one walking by was malicious enough to snatch my Prince or Bossa Nova CDs sitting in the door compartment. Then again, maybe plenty of malicious folks walked by but just had different musical tastes.

making up time

I started watching The Life Aquatic dvd last night to get my mind off of other things, but I quickly fell asleep around 9:30. I woke up at 4, crawled off the couch, and stammered into my bed. 11 hours of sleep that I sorely needed.

If only everything could be solved with a good night's sleep.

It's a motherfucker
Being here without you
Thinking 'bout the good times
Thinking 'bout the bad
And I won't ever be the same
from eels -- it's a motherfucker
